Green Building Construction

A key component of the project is to exemplify excellence in sustainable design. Toward this end, the architectural and landscape consultants have been directed to incorporate environmentally sustainable or “green” standards. Technical assistance has been provided by the Florida Community Loan Fund, and the Florida Solar Energy Center. Green features include: waste minimization and material recycling during the construction process, native landscaping, high efficiency drip irrigation, added building insulation, Energy Star appliances and fixtures, zero VOC paints and caulks, state of the art ventilation systems, moisture barriers, minimal use of carpeting, and an innovative resident education program that includes financial incentives for energy efficient living. When completed, all residences in MerryPlace will meet the Florida Green Building Coalition green development standard, and MerryPlace will be the first certified green affordable housing community in the State of Florida.
